Plant-Based Protein
What Is Our Plant-Based Protein?
If you've looked at our menu, you've probably noticed one of our protein options is simply listed as "plant-based." So what is it?
At Two Step Taqueria, our plant-based option starts with soy-free pea protein crumbles, sautéed with calabaza and cremini mushrooms, then simmered in salsa fresca. The result is hearty, layered and made with real vegetables.
We didn't add it simply to check a box. We wanted a plant-based choice that belonged naturally alongside our chicken, steak, barbacoa and carnitas.
Why pea protein?

Not all plant-based proteins are the same.
Many restaurant plant-based proteins are made with highly refined soy protein isolates. While traditional soy foods like tofu, tempeh and edamame have been enjoyed for generations, we wanted to avoid relying on highly processed soy ingredients in our menu.
Pea protein gave us another option.
It has a hearty texture, takes on our seasonings beautifully and lets our scratch-made salsas and fresh ingredients do what they're meant to do.
Built to belong on the menu
Our goal wasn't to create a "good plant-based option."
Our goal was to create a great protein that anyone would enjoy.
Whether it's wrapped in a burrito, tucked into tacos or served over a grain bowl, our plant-based protein is prepared with the same attention we give every item on our menu.
Every ingredient on our menu is chosen for a reason. Our plant-based protein is no exception.
